New English Teacher at Athens: Ms. Kovacs
This school year, Athens got a new English teacher and she is Ms. Kovacs. It's her first year teaching and she is excited to teach in the Troy School District because she was a student in the Troy School District. She went to Baker Middle School, Troy High School, and then Central Michigan University.
She likes to spend her free time watching movies and TV show. She also likes to procrastinate a lot. She loves skiing and music. She played the cello and she wishes that she did theatre as a kid. She likes to read classic books but her favorite books to read are young adult realistic fiction books.
She didn't know if she wanted to be an English teacher but she always knew that she wanted to be a teacher. She has always liked school and learning. She likes the idea that she gets to inspire students to love learning. She was inspired by all of her teachers growing up and her love of learning. She loves the idea of being in school the rest of her life.
Her favorite teachers are Ms. Foster from Troy high and Mrs. Mui from elementary school. Ms. Foster instilled Ms. Kovacs confidence as a student in English class. Mrs. Mui was kind and had high expectations for the class that challenged the students to be better.
So far, her first year of teaching has been going good so far. She enjoys learning the building, staff, students, and the curriculum. Her favorite parts about teaching has been helping students break through moments where everything just clicks and watching students take what they have learned and apply it outside of the classroom. Something that she dislikes about being a teacher is that it takes up a lot of her time outside of school. She states that it can be tiring to be on all day long.
Ms. Kovacs teaches English to freshman and sophomores and overall, she says that she likes teaching them because there are a lot of different kinds of energy from both grades. Her goals for her first year teaching is to teach literally anything to anyone. She wants all of her students walk out of her room learning at least one thing. One thing students are shocked to hear about Ms. Kovacs is her age and that she also had the same teachers that students also had.
