Elementary Science Olympiad Competition

The Wayne-Oakland Science Olympiad Competition, known as WOSO, was held on June 7th for elementary school students. This competition is the only one that elementary students participate in throughout the year, making it a significant opportunity for them to showcase all that they have learned and prepared throughout the year. This event not only fosters an interest in science among young students but also enhances their knowledge of the subject, providing an exciting environment in which to demonstrate their hard work and learning in a fun, competitive setting.

The competition was divided into grade levels, with third, fourth, and fifth-graders competing within their respective divisions. Medals and trophies were awarded for the top three places in both the third and fifth grade divisions, while the fourth grade division had four awards available.

Several Troy elementary schools participated, including Wass, Schroeder, Hill, Bemis, Costello, and Morse Elementary Schools. The students competed throughout the day and gathered for the award ceremony at approximately 4:00 PM, their faces filled with excitement and anticipation. Right before the awards ceremony, they had a parade with all 14 schools' teams walking around the entire gym, each with their school banner.

Notable achievements from the Troy Schools included: in the Third Grade Division, Wass Elementary School placed first overall! In the Fourth Grade Division, Wass Elementary School secured second place, while Costello Elementary School took fourth overall. In the Fifth Grade Division, Bemis Elementary School secured third place!

We are very proud of all the Troy Schools for earning four trophies at this competition and would like to thank WOSO for providing such a valuable learning opportunity for the kids. Everyone had a lot of fun and can't wait for next year!
