The March 2024 episode of Inside TSD is now available for listening! Also find the transcript below.

Hello and welcome to Inside TSD. I'm your host, superintendent of schools, Dr. Rich Machesky. In recent news across the Troy School District, we've begun working on a new website for families across TSD. We're looking forward to launching at the end of this coming summer, or the beginning, probably more near the beginning of the fall. The great things about the new website will be greater accessibility, and easier use and navigation, as well as we expect the site to have far more effective translation features. We also will be launching a brand new TSD mobile app, this mobile app will provide far more flexibilities and convenience for our families as you're looking for things like lunch menus, accessing your students grades, or looking to make payment, all of those will be much more easily accessible to families. So we look forward to your feedback as we roll out the new website this coming fall.

Coming soon, the Career Accelerator Program Match Day will be kicked off, our high school juniors and seniors will get matched up with their respective businesses. Each student will complete a pre-internship of 20 hours with a business here in Troy. This group of students is our pilot group. We do hope, into the future based on feedback, to expand this program for students across our high schools. So we're looking forward to our students having a great experience with this year's CAP program.

I'm pleased to announce the inaugural meeting of the Troy Business Council, March 12 at 11:30am. We'll be kicking off this new group that will be joining us to again provide insights and information in ways that they can help support the Troy School District and likewise, we can support local business. Our guest speaker for the day will be Andy Gutman from the Farbman Group. He will be doing updates on the local real estate market as well as additional information about what's happening around the city of Troy. Interested businesses can reach out to Kendra Montante at kmontante@troy.k12.mi.us.

March is Reading Month, one of the best months here in the Troy School District. We celebrate that each year, encouraging students to read more and more. I know I'm looking forward to visiting classrooms across TSD and joining in the fun. I know someone has shared with me that I will be, March 1, at Wass Elementary. There will be some very special guests showing up, myself and Mr. Jansen have something very special planned for the students at Wass that day, will report on that into the future.

A few congratulations are in order specifically for our Teachers of the Year winners. Our preschool winner Elizabeth Neuville from of course the Troy Preschool. Elementary winner, Danielle Davenport from Hill Elementary. Our high school winner was Eric Flessa from Troy College & Career High School. And our middle school and overall TSD Teacher of the Year, Stephanie Hyska from Boulan Park Middle School, she received a $2,500 check from the Suburban Collection. Her name will be entered into the Oakland Schools Teacher of the Year program. The winner of that program across Oakland County will receive a lease from the Suburban Collection. So good luck to Stephanie as she enters into that competition.

Troy High School successfully completed their Activist Week, the Colts raised more than $38,800 for the charity On My Own. Congratulations to our Colts for a great Activist Week. At Athens High School, just recently, they completed Charity Week, our hawks raised $166,439 for the charity Love For A Child. What's even more impressive this year, another organization, Grateful Giving Foundation is matching 100% of this year's donations, resulting in a combined contribution of $332,879 that will go to Love For A Child. Congratulations Hawks, and thanks for the donation from The Grateful Giving Foundation.

In closing, we hope you enjoyed midwinter break, spring break is just around the corner, only a month away. Thank you all for your continued partnership. As the months get warmer, the challenge of staying focused becomes more difficult. We appreciate everything you do at home to support our students as they reach their full potential. Thanks for joining us on Inside TSD.
