Badminton Tournament 2025

After the success of the first ever Badminton Tournament in Troy, Athens and Troy High Badminton Club came together again to host another round of both singles and doubles tournaments. This time, in addition to Athens and Troy High students, participants from both International Academy East and West also joined this exciting play. Here are the top 3 winners in each bracket:

Singles Bracket:

• Olam Hong (Troy High) - 1st Place

• Tharun Murugesan (Troy High) - 2nd Place

• Steven Li (Troy High) - 3rd Place

Doubles Bracket:

• Tharun Murugesan & Olam Hong (Troy High) - 1st Place

• Eric Li & Ivy Qin (Troy High) - 2nd Place

• Toro Giang & Ash Bohari (Troy High) - 3rd Place

As there are limited opportunities for badminton within the school district, students interested in badminton would often go to the Troy Community Center, the closest place with a badminton court and net, where they would spend more time waiting in line for the courts than playing badminton and with majority adults. This tournament, hosted at Athens High School, gave students the opportunity to compete against others, within the same age levels, who share the same passion for badminton and “let the small minority of people that play the sport to have an outlet they could prove themselves with,” said Phuong Giang, President of Athens Badminton Club.
